My Artist Statement and Goals: Who Am I and What Do I Do?
… a passionate artist
I am a solo concert pianist and chamber musician dedicated to building interpersonal connections between people through live performance and music education. I perform between 30 and 50 concerts around the US and abroad per season as a soloist and chamber musician. Many of these concerts take place at schools, libraries, and retirement communities that offer free or low-cost programs for local patrons.
… a bold innovator
I create varied concert programs that showcase the entire range of the classical piano repertoire, from the Baroque era to pieces composed within the past five years, with a particular emphasis on new music and living composers. Each calendar year, I commission a substantial new solo piano work to be created by a living composer. I have exclusive rights to perform the piece for one year, as well as first recording rights. The piece will feature prominently on all solo programs I perform in the subsequent season.
… a charismatic communicator
I speak to my audiences from the stage to offer insight and context into the music and to guide their listening experience, always with a healthy dose of humor and charm. I perform a series of intimate performances in the living rooms and salons of friends, fans, and patrons that imitate the salon performances of the Romantic era. The performances are a unique way to mingle with fellow music lovers, and the performer, while taking in a professional performance in the comfort of a private residence.

… a dedicated community builder
I make it my greatest personal endeavor to use live performance as a means of creating community between myself and an audience by striving to communicate, through music, the most intimate and basic human emotions. To this end, I launched a collaboration with Bloomington’s South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP) Head Start Early Education Program to introduce music initiation programs into their four pre-school classrooms. I lead interactive workshops with the students that teach basic musical concepts and awaken their senses to the arts and music.
