OpenCultureWORKS (OCW) is a collective that formed to support artists and the arts bring their works outdoors using the new Open Culture Permits, Open Streets Permits and Open Plazas initiatives created by NYC for this summer of reopening. They support artists from the permitting process through to their event days with advice and material support as needed.
OCW has decades of outdoor arts producing and production management expertise, and the organization recognized the urgent need for consulting on the intricacies of outdoor performance for artists who might not have extensive resources to mount their work outdoors. OCW provides artists with the foundational knowledge and resources necessary to help them with the successful execution of their outdoor events (or indoor events, when that becomes possible again) - turning any street, park, public space into a safe and secure performance venue.
OCW's wide breadth of services starts with a free, in-depth consultation. They then help shape each event with a particular eye to budget, logistics and personnel, and can provide day-of personnel if necessary.
To this end, they collaborate with wide network of artists, cultural and community partners and stakeholders. These include performing arts venues, museums, arts councils, arts advocacy organizations, civic groups, community boards, tenant associations, local businesses, and Business Improvement Districts.
