Fieldwork workshops provide a forum to share developing works and exchange feedback artist to artist. Guided by an experienced facilitator, discussions are incisive and stimulating. The Fieldwork structure reveals how each piece is perceived by others and provides detailed information that helps participants hone their vision. By focusing discussions on what’s happening in the work and how those choices shape the work, the Fieldwork method supports the authorship of each artist. Many groups culminate in an informal showing open to the public.

• Gain new insight into your artwork
• Be motivated by a weekly deadline
• Hone your critical perception

As a founding program of The Field, Fieldwork’s method of feedback has been utilized and honed by artists for over 20 years.  Fieldwork is also offered across the US through the Field Network.

All Fieldwork groups are Mixed Discipline.  Performing artists working in all styles/genres/forms are welcome!

Dance/movement: choreography, improvisation, solo, group
Music: composers, songwriters, sound designers and improvisers creating instrumental, electronic/computer, vocal music
Theater: plays, solos, monologues, standup, puppetry

"I loved the Fieldwork and thought that it was useful for my process. It provided a place to stay active during the winter months when much wasn’t going on in the performance realm. I found that it allowed me to maintain a higher level of creativity and stay actively inspired. I enjoy the Fieldwork because it also provided an opportunity to meet other active artists."
- Mathew Heggem, Dance Artist
