WHO ARE OUR ARTISTS? The performing artists we serve are individuals (and their groups) who are in the early to mid-career stage of their artistic and professional development. They live in all five New York boroughs and beyond, and are culturally and racially diverse. They range from their early twenties to senior citizens, and the vast majority are low-income. Field artists receive grassroots funding as well as competitive and prestigious funding such as grants from Multi-Arts Production (MAP) Fund, Greenwall Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, and American Express, to name just a few. Works presented by Field artists receive positive press in national and local papers, and their performances earn Bessies and Obies. Throughout the year Field artists are cultural ambassadors as they tour nationally and internationally.
AWARDS & MONEY As our peers and mentors attest, The Field's 24 years of award-winning service stand as a tested and thriving model of best practices and vision for stabilization and growth of New York performing artists. We have received press coverage from WNYC Public Radio, The New York Times, Village Voice, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and The Greenwich Times, to name a few. Our staff has received recognition from numerous sources including Brooklyn Arts Exchange (2 BAXten Awards), a 2006 New York Innovative Theater Stewardship Award for significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community, and citations from the New York City Council for service to artists. We also commit time, knowledge, and passion to panels and symposia across the city and the country - participating on CUNY/Prelude Festival panels, Americans for the Arts' Creative Conversations, and the Pew Charitable Trust Task Force for the New York State Cultural Data Project.
