Fall 2008 Fieldwork Artist Residency
The Field is piloting a new program for The FAR Space this fall!
Fieldwork Artist Residency is designed to supply ten performing artists with the necessary resources and encouragement to delve more fully into their creative work. Residents will receive six hours of rehearsal space per week from September 1st to November 1st and participate in a creative laboratory where they can exchange feedback with fellow artists.
For just $200 participants receive:
-
50 Hours of Rehearsal Space: 6 hours/week over 9 weeks, Sept. 1 to Nov. 1
-
6 Fieldwork Workshops: Tuesdays 6:30-9pm, Sept. 23 to Oct. 28
Eligibility & Selection The program is open to Members of The Field working in performance disciplines who require a studio for movement-based work in their rehearsals. This includes, but is not restricted to, artists working in dance, physical theater, performance art, theater or music that uses movement, and interdisciplinary forms. Artists can use the residency in multiple ways, such as: developing a new piece, taking an existing work to the next level, or experimenting with material for a potential new project.
In keeping with The Field’s mission to be inclusive as well as support a diversity of artistic voices, resident artists are selected via lottery. Applications are due Wednesday, July 30th at 5pm in the office. The lottery drawing is open to the public and will take place at The Field office at 12pm Friday, August 1st. Program recipients will receive a call from James Scruggs on Friday, August 1st between 1pm and 6pm. You must reply confirming your acceptance before Monday 10am, or you will lose your slot. Residencies are not transferable.
Orientation The program begins with an orientation meeting held at The FAR Space on Tuesday, August 26th at 6:30pm. All recipients must attend the orientation. If you are not available, please apply next time.
Program Fee Participation in the program is $200, including 50 hours of rehearsal space in our Chelsea studio and six Fieldwork workshops. This breaks down to $4 per hour for space, plus the workshop!
